Hey Father, teach me what it looks like to be known by you
I mean I know you made me for yourself,
things work best when our relationship is dynamic
But sometimes I struggle with how that looks for us
So today, Holy Spirit, would you come
Open my mind and heart to new ideas and fresh disciplines
to new possibilities and different approaches
So I can become who I already am, a man known by you and living with you for the sake of your son in his kingdom. In Him and through Him...Amen

I think that is great - to ask God to show you what things really mean instead of just taking on a meaning that people have told you. I think that makes our relationship with God so much more real and deep.
I was listening to the song "I Surrender All" the other day. I started wondering what that really meant. To really surrender all to Christ. I know and remember what other people and authors think that means (giving up all your possessions, fasting one day a week, never getting married etc.) but I just started to talk to God - "God, I know that surrendering to you has got to be a great thing. I have know idea what that looks or feels like. Please teach me and let me surrender."
Another beautiful prayer from that song comes from the line: "fill me with your love and power, let your blessing fall on me". I thought that would be an awesome thing to pray because it doesn't seem like a lot of times I walk around with His love and power and blessing. I really want that!
The other day as I penned in my journal, God, I surrender to you as this pen surrenders to me. As I reflect on that comment, it has been a freeing thought, for I ask not the pen to be any different than it is, but to allow me to help it be all it was designed to be.
